This week we sat down with Leigh Cowart, author of Hurts So Good: the Science and Culture Behind Pain on Purpose. Their book explores why people all over the world like to engage in pain on purpose, from ballerinas dancing on broken bones to people choking down spicy peppers until they cry. We discuss the difference between self-harm and masochism, how their traumatic experience as a ballet dancer informed their life and their kinks, and more.
